Earlier this week the Assembly unanimously agreed to look at the costs of the Watchdog and its procedures “to ensure that it is best placed to deliver value for money and serve passengers’ needs effectively over the next ten years.”
The watchdog, which is funded by the Assembly, is independent of transport operators including Transport for London and represents the interests of transport users in and around London.
Assembly Member Roger Evans who proposed the review said the body “has done good work representing passengers over the last ten years” adding that the review was aimed at helping TravelWatch “maintain and improve service standards over the next decade.”
Responding to the motion, TravelWatch chair Sharon Grant said the body had “proved its worth for many years, by acting as the eyes and ears of the travellers across all modes in London” but said it welcomed “any contribution the Mayor and the Assembly can make to helping us to do our job better in the difficult times ahead.”
